“THERE ARE THOSE WHO SAY FATE IS BEYOND OUR COMMAND, THAT DESTINY IS NOT OUR OWN. BUT I KNOW BETTER. OUR FATE LIVES WITHIN US. YOU ONLY HAVE TO BE BRAVE ENOUGH TO SEE IT.” ––Merida, Brave
I choose goodness so that I can be the light to someone else. I choose gratitude so that I can see the light in my own life. I choose freedom so that I can celebrate the station I have in life. I choose independence so that I can find strength within my own soul. I choose patience so that I can recognize the progress I make. I choose kindness so that I can see others as God sees them. I choose love so that my heart can expand and heal. I choose friendship so that I can share the joys and sorrows which prove I am human. I choose endurance so that I can pace myself with my goals in life. I choose courage so that I can learn of my inner strength. I choose accountability so that I might stay humble. I choose forgiveness so that my heart will be free from chains. I choose healing so that the past will not limit my future. I choose silliness so that my kids will know I am young at heart. I choose playfulness so that I can have lasting memories. I choose spontaneity so that I will have the skills to jump the hurdles that God places in front of me. I choose organization so that others will know I value it. I choose order so that my sanity might be maintained. I choose determination so that goals will become achievements. I choose hope so that I might see the perspective God wants me to see. And finally, I choose to make my life my own so that I may always see my value in this world.
However insignificant an influence I am in this world, I do have value, just as each one of us to. We all have that ‘something special’ in us that doesn’t come from destiny. Greatness blooms from all of the above. So I wish all of you a happy new year and hope that you take control and choose what you want this year to be. Do not depend on anyone other than yourself to determine your greatness, for there is no such thing as fate or destiny or karma. Greatness is a choice.
And as the final lines of the Disney movie Brave says: “There are those who say fate is beyond our command, that destiny is not our own. But I know better. Our fate lives within us. You only have to be brave enough to see it.” ––Merida, Brave
